Re-enactors Agenda for the Battle of Georgian Bay 2001

Sunday, August 19th – Wednesday, August 22nd, 2001

  • 12:00 noon - Midnight – Early Registration & set-up of period encampment. Location: Registration Tent.
  • During the day and evening re-enactors are encouraged to visit the local areas many historical, entertainment, recreation and tourist destinations. For more information on area attractions see area brochure or call 1-800- 263-7745 for area information.
  • 8:00pm - 1:00am – Open Stage at Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern. Tavern open till 1:00am.

Thursday, August 23rd, 2001

  • 10:00am - Midnight – Early Registration & set-up of period encampment. Location: Registration Tent.
  • 2:00pm – Officers meeting to review the battle tactics for the Skirmish at Balm Beach Depot. Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.

 

  • 3:00pm – Drill & safety protocols for British and American militia/native units. All individuals not associated with a unit must attend.

Location: North Garrison Green

  • 3:30pm – Officers meeting to review the battle tactics for the Skirmish at Balm Beach Depot.
  • 4:00-600pm – Buses begin to transport re-enactors to Balm Beach Depot.
  • 4:00pm – Longboats participating are transported to Balm Beach Depot and launched.
  • 6:30pm – American & British troops prepare for battle.
  • 7:00pm – American Originals Fife and Drum Corps perform.
  • 7:20pm – 8:30pm – American attack on Balm Beach Depot begins. American forces begin land assault against resisting British allies. British forces are defeated and captured. Looting and pillaging of Depot stores and local merchants ensues. Mayor of Tiny is captured and surrenders the Depot. Flag lowering-raising. American Originals perform to close formal activities.
  • 8:30pm 9:30pm – Social gathering at the Balm Beach Depot.
  • 9:00pm – 11:00pm – Buses begin to return re-enactors to Discovery Harbour. Longboats are loaded and tailored back to Discovery Harbour. Tall Ships return to port.
  • 10:00pm –1:00am – Mundy’s Bay Grog League and Malarkey entertain at Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.

Friday, August 24th, 2001

  • 7:00am – 10:00am – Breakfast. $4.00 Pancakes, Sausage, Coffee Etc. Bring own plate, cup & cutlery.
  • 10:00am - Midnight – Early Registration & set-up of period encampment. Location: Registration Tent.

 

  • 2:00pm – American Originals Perform at Mountainview Mall – Midland

 

  • 2:00pm – Officers meeting to review the battle tactics for the Attack on the Port of Midland. Location – Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.

 

  • 3:00pm – Drill & safety protocols for British and American militia/native units. All individuals not associated with a unit must attend. Location: North Garrison Green

 

  • 4:30pm - 6:00pm – Longboats participating are transported to Midland Harbour and launched. Tall Ships participating also depart for Midland Harbour.

 

  • 4:30pm – 6:00pm – Buses begin to transport re-enactors to the Town of Midland.

 

  • 6:00pm – 7:00pm – Live New VR News broadcast – Waterfront - Midland
  • 6:30pm – American & British troops, longboats and tall ships prepare for battle.
  • 6:45pm – American Originals Fife and Drum Corps perform.
  • 7:10pm – 8:45pm – Tall ship battle begins. British ships are defeated. Land attack on the Port of Midland begins. American forces come ashore and begin land assault against resisting British. British forces are defeated and American troops begin to loot and pillage local stores and merchants. The Mayor of Midland along with captured British troops are escorted to the Midland Public Library for ceremonial surrender of the town. Flag lowering-raising. American Originals perform to close formal activities.

 

  • 8:45pm 9:30pm – Social gathering at the Midland Public Library and parade back down King Street to Town Dock.
  • 9:00pm – 11:00pm – Buses begin to return re-enactors to Discovery Harbour. Longboats will be towed back to launching ramp for transportation back to Discovery Harbour. Tall ships start returning to port as early as 8:00pm. Bay Moorings Launching ramp will be available in Penetanguishene Saturday morning for launching.
  • 10:00pm –1:00am – Tanglefoot concert for re-enactor’s & guests only. Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.

Saturday, August 25th, 2001

  • 7:00am – 10:00am – Early Registration & set-up of period encampment. Location: Registration Tent.
  • 7:00am – 10:00am – Breakfast. $4.00 Pancakes, Sausage, Coffee, Etc. Bring own plate, cup & cutlery.
  • 8:00am – Officers meeting to plan the Parade & Pillaging of Penetanguishene. Any units wishing to take part in the pillaging must have a representative present. Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.
  • 9:00am – British forces and camp followers board buses and leave for town.
  • 9:30am – American forces and camp followers board buses and leave for town.
  • 10:45am – Tall ships participating in the Parade & Pillaging of Penetanguishene depart for town.
  • 11:15am – Parade & Pillaging of the Town of Penetanguishene begins.
  • 12:00 noon – American Originals perform on the field while British and American troops maneuver for position at Waterfront Park.
  • 12:15pm – 12:45pm – British resistance is defeated. Mayor of Penetanguishene is captured and escorted with other prisoners to the Penetanguishene Museum for the ceremonial surrender of the town. American Originals lead the victorious Americans to the museum, looting and pillaging continue along with minor skirmishes and battles.
  • 12:45pm – 1:30pm – Surrendering ceremonies. Flag lowering & rising. Social.
  • 1:00pm – 2:30pm – Plaid Apple String Band – Boardwalk - Discovery Harbour
  • 1:30pm – 2:00pm – Buses begin to transport re-enactors back to Discovery Harbour.

 

  • 2:30pm – 3:30pm – The Old Elgin Band – Boardwalk - Discovery Harbour

 

  • 3:00pm – Officers meeting to plan and organize the Siege of Magazine Island. Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.

 

  • 3:00pm – American Originals perform at Mountainview Mall – Midland
  • 3:30pm – 5:30pm – Plaid Apple String Band – Boardwalk - Discovery Harbour
  • 4:00pm – 6:00pm – Saturday evening feast begins. Bring own plate, cup & cutlery.
  • 5:30pm – 6:30pm – The Old Elgin Band – Boardwalk - Discovery Harbour
  • 6:00pm – Re-enactors, vessels and equipment begin to prepare for the Siege of Magazine Island. Defending Americans and equipment begin transport to Magazine Island.
  • 6:45pm – British fleet leaves the Kings Wharf and station themselves off the north west point of Magazine Island.
  • 7:00pm – American Originals Fife and Drum Corps perform.
  • 7:20pm – The Siege of Magazine Island begins. Naval action, cannon fire, musket fire, ground charges, fireworks, assault landings etc. British forces also attack by land in Bayfield Park. Pioneers and light troops will be in high demand.
  • 7:45pm – Magazine Island has been taken and the Americans have retreated back to Discovery Harbour for the second British assault.
  • 8:00pm – The second assault has landed and is pushing the Americans back towards the North end. Pioneers have hacked their way through the main gate to allow more British re-enforcements to join the fight. Light troops and Natives engage Americans high on the hill amongst the dense, thick forest.
  • 8:30pm – A counter attack by the Americans has stopped the British advance and battle lines have been drawn for the evening.
  • 8:45pm – All units form up and parade down the lower road led by the American Originals back to the grand encampment. All vessels return to port. Equipment and boats may also be tended to at this time.
  • 9:00pm – 10:00pmBattle Aftermath Tour - Hour long public evening program featuring, surgeons, sutlers, artisans, American Originals Fife & Drum Corps, sentry’s, night skirmishes in no man’s land and more. Self guided.
  • 10:00pm – 1:00amTanglefoot concert for re-enactors & public. Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.

Sunday, August 26th, 2001

  • 7:00am – 10:00am – Breakfast. $4.00 Pancakes, Sausage, Coffee, Etc. Bring own plate, cup & cutlery. Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.
  • 9:00am – Ecumenical Worship Service - Rev. James Pauquette - Keating House Grounds.
  • 10:00am – 12:00 noon – Iron Man and Iron Women competitions begin. Must pre-register at registration tent.  Location: Grand Encampment
  • 10:30am – 1:00pm – Draw for pillaged goods and baskets. Must be present with ticket to win. Pie baking contest judging will also take place at this time as well.  Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.
  • 1:15pm – Officers Meeting to plan the Americans Last Stand. Location: Jack’s Nasty Face Tavern.
  • 2:00pm – Units and equipment prepare for battle. American Originals Fife & Drum Corps perform.
  • 2:30pmBattle begins just south of Keating House and proceeds to the garrison green. After many draws in the fighting the British advance and defeat the Americans.
  • 3:30pm – Battle ends and all troops line up for parade pass the crowd. American Originals perform and lead the way. Large souvenir panoramic sky photo may be taken at this time – All participants may be asked to form up for photo.
  • 4:30 – Clean up and wrap-up begins. Vehicles are allowed on the historic site at this time. Re-enactors wishing to stay over until Monday are welcomed.  No exceptions will be made!!!  Golf Cars available to transport equipment for those wishing to leave earlier!
